Celebrating 30,000 Visits!
Holy Cats, people! This little blog passed 30,000 visitors as of last night — totally blowing past 20,000 over this past weekend! My little Recipe Searcher thing has been a huge contributing factor, as nearly half of that 30K visitor count is just from the past five days!
Spoiler Alert: Last time our geography lesson included Guernsey. This time our geography lesson will be including both Jersey (not the same thing as “Joisey”) and Mauritania!
Now I’m sure there are tons of double-counts in that 30K number, since web stats are hard to analyze, and no two methods seem to count them the same. But still. WOW.
Something that I am finding amusing, though, is that the number of “hits” to the blog posts announcing version 1 and version 2 of the Recipe Searcher are significantly higher than the “hits” to the actual tool itself.
By, like, a lot.
So for those if you who have it bookmarked, and pinned, and whatever other newfangled retention methods are out there — please make sure you’ve squirreled away the direct link. 🙂 http://dumpsterfirecookingschool.com/aggregate-recipe-searcher/
What is also interesting is the date spread of the “hits” for the various parts of this site discussing the Recipe Searcher — which just makes Facebook’s algorithms all the more confusing — because more people are visiting 1 and 2 days later, than who are visiting on the day of each post. Very strange!
Anyhoo, now for some fun statistics!
I finally deciphered how the map works. See the little scale at the bottom-left? Apparently the color coding is supposed to be in a gradient, with dark red being the most visitors, and white being the least visitors. All I have is red and white. LOL 😀
As is to be expected, USA represents the bulk of readership — with Canada a very distant second. And, equally as expected, 98.54% of readers are from English-speaking countries. (I can only imagine what the remaining 1.46% are thinking while trying to decipher my extremely non-standard-English ramblings.)
Last time (at 10K visitors) we learned about Guernsey.
This time we get to learn about Jersey. Which is not the same thing as “Joisey“. 😉 😀
Jersey, officially the Bailiwick of Jersey, is a Crown dependency of the United Kingdom located near the coast of Normandy, France. Jersey was part of the Duchy of Normandy, whose dukes went on to become kings of England from 1066. After Normandy was lost by the kings of England in the 13th century, and the ducal title surrendered to France, Jersey and the other Channel Islands remained attached to the English crown.
And now for the kicker:
The bailiwick consists of the island of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, along with surrounding uninhabited islands and rocks collectively named Les Dirouilles, Les Écréhous, Les Minquiers, Les Pierres de Lecq, and other reefs. Although the bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey are often referred to collectively as the Channel Islands, the “Channel Islands” are not a constitutional or political unit. Jersey has a separate relationship to the Crown from the other Crown dependencies of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, although all are held by the monarch of the United Kingdom.
Yup!
So for all I know, a single reader from Guernsey took their laptop on a boat ride to Jersey — but y’know what, I’ll take it. 🙂
Today we also get to learn about Mauritania!
Mauritania, officially the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is an Arab country in the Maghreb region of western Africa. It is the eleventh largest country in Africa and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Western Sahara in the north, Algeria in the northeast, Mali in the east and southeast, and Senegal in the southwest.
Now for the fun part!
Back on May 25th, when we celebrated passing 10,000 visits, the visitor stats were scattered across 45 different countries. We’re now up to 80 countries. WOW!
Since I only post my blog to the main IP Facebook group, the vast majority of these people are likely IP users (or wanna-be-users). So that’s a pretty amazing thing that our beloved little IP is bringing so many diverse people together. *heart emoji*
I also have enabled the “search engines discouraged” setting for this blog — so unless IP FB people are sharing blog posts with non-IP friends (which is entirely possible, because really, #GarlicNoseFireOfDeath was pretty damn funny, and still holds the record for total number of visitors in a single day) — I cannot think of any other way such geographic diversity could be happening here.
So here is where everyone is from, ordered highest-to-lowest. (I didn’t bother to type in the percentages for all the fractions-of-one-percent counts, because that was gonna be effort ‘n stuff. 😀 )
