Overwhelmed and Grateful

Holy cats, people!

I could have never in a million years imagined that two random, middle-of-the-night smart-ass posts in a Facebook group would, in a mere matter of days, morph into a blog — especially after (a) telling so many of y’all that I don’t have time for a blog, and (b) not wanting to start a blog.

Pro Tips:
  • I still don’t have time for a blog.
  • Ack! What the hell was I thinking doing this!!??” 🙂

I’m both overwhelmed and humbled by all the Facebook responses, as well as with all the subscribers pouring in here.  I sincerely hope I can live up to all your expectations. (Seriously though: “Ack! What the hell was I thinking doing this!!??”)

Breakin’ the Law! Breakin’ the Law!

Alas, the moderator over there turned off commenting on my post about the blog launch (since bloggers aren’t supposed to be generically pimpin’ their wares outside officially sanctioned ‘Calling All Bloggers’ requests).

Thus, with the way FB works, people not commenting means that it fell into the rabbit hole before the most of European contingent even saw it. But I did try to reply to individual comments where I could, to provide the URL — well at least until FB decided I was spamming.

I also got a gentle little reprimand-reminder that swearing isn’t allowed over there (fortunately for me the mods all seemed to have missed the swear-filled original post that spawned all this!!!!), and it was only then that I realized the opening text of my pinned post got included in the “screen capture” shown with the posted link.

So right there, front and center, announcing to all the world was: “there will be swearing!”.

Whoops. 🙁

I might need to fly under the radar over there for awhile so I don’t accidentally get myself banned from the group! 😮

Some Worries

Because of this, I’ve re-written the pinned post to hopefully get the most important text right at the top for when / if other people post the URL — and I’ve similarly re-written the “Fragile Flowers” disclaimer box on the right-side column.

If y’all would be so kind as to take a peek at the rewrite of “Welcome & Warnings” (link should open in a new tab), and let me know how it now reads now, I would be very grateful. BUT please use the comments on this page for your feedback on those changes. Please don’t post your feedback directly on that page.

Specifically, I have two huge concerns:

  1. That IP newbies won’t “get the joke”, and thus be scared away from IPing
  2. That the IP company will consider what I’m doing a detriment to their product

As such, I’ve decided that maybe it’s not in everyone’s best interest for me to be un-serious all the time. Which means I need a post category for said for-realsies seriousness, which I would use for posting such things as info about the IP-Ultra, about accessories I have, etc. (For instance: This post would fit into that new category.)

Any suggestions for such a category name?

All I’ve been able to come up with is “Suddenly Serious”, which just doesn’t do it for me.

For reference, here are the categories I’ve come up with so far:

  • Battle Wounds
  • Down in Flames
  • Effed It Up; Ate it Anyway
  • Hot Messes
  • Just for Fun
  • Safe to Try
  • Surprising Successes
Upcoming Plans

Now back to the fun stuff!

I do have plans to go back through some of my old FB posts and back-fill this blog with a few things. So if you get an email notice about a new post, but see and old date on it — that is why: I’ll be setting the post dates here to match the post dates on FB.

One of the back-filled posts will be the Thai Chicken Soup post, where I had opted to not share on FB the sordid details (it involved decomposing spinach), because I was 10 paragraphs in to the story yet still trying to just get the first ingredient into the pot. Well, now that I have this little blog, I can share those sordid details. No promises on how soon that is going to happen. Afterall, you’ve already been warned a few times that I don’t have time to be a blogger. 😀

I also plan to share more details about my near fight-to-the-death with the kitchen tongs. (Hint: The tongs won. Hint #2: Swearing was most definitely involved.)

Lastly, at some point I will be going back and adding pictures to the original Effed it up; Ate it Anyway post, so that I can inflict additional carrot imagery on y’all. 😉

So those all should hopefully be some things for y’all to look forward to at some vague point in the future.

In Closing…

I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to consistently deliver on the “funny” for upcoming posts, especially compared to the expectations you already have built-up based on that fluke of an original post. But I will do my best.

Thank you again for all of your encouragement and support.

I think your revised Welcome statement hits all the right notes.

Just write a cookbook I will be first to buy it!

Considering I’ve put disclaimers all over this site about “make these recipes at your own risk”, a cookbook isn’t likely to actually happen. 😀

I saw the warning for swearing & was wondering what the F they were talking about. ???? One of my pet peeves is commenting being turned off. ???? Looking forward to whatever you post because life is too short to be so uptight.

Ps. All facts, disclaimers & warnings look awesome!

Wahoo! Can we comment with curse words on our epic fails and stupid ass moves? Girl, we should be friends cause I’m always trying something that doesn’t go right and in fact goes wrong in crazy proportions!

I’m a pediatric nurse and was talking to the dad of a patient the other day. He had a tattoo of the butcher lines of a pig and was wearing a T Shirt that had some smarty ass comment about pork. I knew he was either a butcher or a chef. So, chef he was.
I started talking about pressure cooking and this dude had me talked into Sous Vide in like 2 seconds and then out of it 2 min later!
He said, “all it takes is 24 hours”. And my mouth moved faster than my brain…”who the f*** has that kind of time?” Thankfully he took it well

    • Jen Neefer

Swearing in comments is totally allowed here –just as long as it is used in an expressive way, and not in an abusive way.

And I totally hear you on the sous vide thing. My stomach is on the instant gratification plan!

Love your writing and your irreverent sense of fun! Welcome & Warnings page looks great.

Your “Effed it up “Ate it anyway” had me laughing so hard in the first 2 minutes that I had to stop and catch my breath. It was a genius account of your dinner spiral into the dumpster and back into the dinner bowl. Love your writing, hope to see much more of it in the future. Good luck, you already have a fan base.

I love this! You are down to earth and this is REAL cooking! It’s also a good laugh and break from the depressing news crap all over social media every day. Keep it up – at your pace!!

  • Expecting funniness! ????

I just got all caught up and I’m loving your posts!!!
